Hypocalcemia can cause characteristic changes on the electrocardiogram (ECG), reflecting the impact of reduced serum calcium levels on electrical conduction and ventricular repolarization. The main effect of hypocalcemia is prolongation of the QT interval, caused by a delay in the repolarization phase of the action potential.
