Peripheral intraventricular block is a type of conduction block or delay caused by abnormalities in the Purkinje fibers, their junctions, and/or the ventricular muscle fibers. It may also be called focal block, parietal block, Purkinje fiber block, reticular block, arborization block, or even nonspecific intraventricular conduction block (or delay).

Electrocardiographic Criteria

  • QRS duration > 110 ms
  • No diagnostic criteria for right or left bundle branch block
  • Terminal QRS widening, represented by broad S waves (≥ 30 ms) or slurring at the end of the R waves, present in at least 3 leads

ECG in Peripheral Intraventricular Block

Electrocardiogram showing peripheral intraventricular block

Peripheral intraventricular block. In this form of intraventricular conduction disturbance, the QRS complex is wide, but not all electrocardiographic criteria for RBBB or LBBB are met.
